The Dampit Guitar Humidifier
The Dampit Humidifier is the very first guitar humidifier that I purchased for my guitar humidity control. This is one of the most fundamental and simple to use humidifiers that is very compelling as well. To use the unit locate your guitar in its case and stick the Dampit through the soundhole and clip to the side. You can then apply the plastic sound hole cover, however I choose not to bother with the cover.
After fill the unit with water, be sure to shake out the excess water to prevent the water from staining the unfinished surfaces on the guitar interior. The process for implementing this is distinctly stated in the directions that come with the unit. There may be more elaborate and expensive systems available, this simple, hassle-free and low-priced unit can easily eradicate your humidity related problems.
Dislikes: I am not satisfied with the humidity measuring system that is supplied with the device. It is unreliable and can give you a false sense of security. An incase hydrometer system is the best possible humidity monitoring systems, such as the Oasis OH-2.
The Planet Waves Guitar Humidifier System
To fill this humidifier all you have to do is fill the included plastic syringe with water and drip it into the sponge material inside the humidifier. Be careful that you don’t overfill the sponge or reservoir or it will drip. This humidifier will supply moist air to your entire case and expose all parts of your guitar to humidity.
Dislikes: It takes quite a bit of time to load the sponge with water a few drips at a time. also cramming this humidifier between the strings is a bit inconvenient and can even throw off the guitar tuning just a bit. There isn’t any monitoring system for checking the humidity levels in the case either.
Guitar Humidifier Device by Herco
I first started using these handy little humidifiers for my prize violin and mandolin instruments. Considering the compact size of this little guitar humidifier, and being relatively leak-free, you can position it nearly anywhere in your case. All it is is a plastic container that is filled with some clay that is water absorbent. I used one for each violin and mandolin, but I typically use 2 of them for my classical guitars or acoustic guitars.
It is good to know that since it does not come with any instructions, the best way to charge it with water is to dump it into a water filled cup or jar and let it set for a minimum of five minutes. Next just wipe the excess water from the unit and pop it into your case. You will need to repeat this every few days. It will never leak and it will keep your instrument humidified.
Dislikes: Likewise, this system does not have a humidity monitoring system (hydrometer) and you absolutely need this to know the relative humidity levels of your instrument atmosphere.
Oasis OH2 Hydrometer and OH-6 Humidifier – The Complete System
I personally use the Oasis OH-6 and OH-2 guitar guitar humidifier system as the ideal one-two punch to keep humidity in check for my most valuable and fragile pre-war Martin and Gibson acoustics. Humidity levels of between 30% and 40% are essential for the health of fragile wooden guitars during periods of dry air. This system will easily deliver these levels throughout your guitar case and allow you to monitor the level simply with the included hydrometer and make adjustments when necessary. The enclosed clip will allow a versatile positioning of the device in various locations in the case. Couple that with the excellent OH-2 Hydrometer and you have a one-two punch that is tough to beat. I have used these systems for years and have not had any problems with humidity since their use.
Dislikes: I have no dislikes.
